A campaign focused on bringing a virtual end to HIV is coming to Byron Bay.
Up to 40 people are expected to attend the forum run by health promotion organisation ACON at Byron Bay’s Community centre tonight.
The state-wide initiative aims to drive down new HIV infections among gay men 80 per cent by 2020.
“The campaign focuses on three areas: testing more, treating early and staying safe. Why we come here is we want to talk to people face to face, it’s really important those things see an increase.”
Just yesterday, figures were released showing there was a 24 per cent spike in the number of people contracting the virus last year.
ACON encourages gay men to get tested twice a year to help prevent the spread of the disease.
