RENEWED CALLS FOR CANSDELL TO FACE PROSECUTION

Fresh calls have been made to Attorney General Greg Smith, for disgraced Clarence MP Steve Cansdell to be prosecuted, after he admitted to falsely signing a statutory declaration in 2005.

Mr Cansdell later admitted he allowed a staffer to take the blame, after he was caught driving over the speed limit.

Shadow Attorney General Paul Lynch challenged his political rival in question time last week.

He asked the Attorney General to respond to advice given by a retired senior barrister – which claims Mr Cansdell could have been charged for lying under oath.

Mr Smith responded, by saying the advice was unsolicited.
