FURTHER DELAYS TO TWEED LEP RISKY: TWEED MAYOR

Tweed Mayor Barry Longland fears council could lose control of its Local Environment Plan if there’s further delays in submitting the document to the State Government.

The plan will be considered at an extraordinary meeting on Friday following a rescission motion on Council’s decision to endorse the LEP.

Several councillors are calling for further environmental protection measures and zone changes, but Mr Longland says it’s a risky move as alterations would put the plan on public exhibition for a third time.

“The possibility that the department of planning will take the process out of our hands and translate our old LEP into the standard template is the possibility the real possibility.”

Mr Longland says further amendments could made in a separate LEP.
