STUDENTS TAKE TO THE CLASSROOM FOR FIRST LESSON

Students of the new Gomeroi Culture Academy took to the classroom for their first lesson today.
It’s part of a 12-month pilot program, which looks to build the cultural identity among local indigenous teens.
“The focus of the academy really is to start with the individual, and build ourselves up and gradually progress that and see where we can end up at the end of the year,”Marc Sutherland, Gomeroi Culture Academy.
“Today we’re learning about values but there’s so many values in the world but today we’re learning what is a value to us…Our value is culture and that’s what we’re all here for,” Maene Trindall, student.
Ten students are currently taking part, with classes running each Wednesday during school terms.
