VAN PARK RESIDENTS SET TO BE MOVED ON

Lismore City Council’s decision to enforce short-term stays only at a CBD caravan park will leave as many as 90 people without a home.

The council voted this week to leave the flood-prone Lismore Tourist Caravan Park in it current location, but discontinue permanent rentals.

“We know that 86% of them want permanent accommodation and we will work with other housing agencies to try and develop that.”

The mayor Jenny Dowell acknowledges it will be a difficult transition, given the lack of affordable housing.

“The last thing we want is to make more people homeless.”
