FIRST SOD TURNED FOR ARKINSTALL PARK

Dirt, as opposed to mud was flung at Tweed Heads South this afternoon, to mark the redevelopment of Arkinstall Park.

Stage one, funded by a $5-million grant from the federal government, will be completed next year.

It’s hoped the transformation of aging netball and tennis courts will entice teams to train there ahead of the 20-18 Commonwealth Games.

“The Commonwealth Games – it’s important it isn’t just an event for a fortnight. What it will do is be an injection of jobs for ongoing activity in months if not years in the lead-up to it.”

The Minister denied claims Labor isn’t committed to helping fund the games.
