LAKE MACQUARIE SAILORS ESCAPE UNSCATHED FROM FATAL CATAMARAN CAPSIZE IN U.S.

Two Lake Macquarie sailors have escaped unscathed from a fatal catamaran capsize in San Francisco Bay.

Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen were training aboard the America’s cup craft Artemis, when it capsized, trapping English sailor Andrew Simpson underwater.

Simpson spent up to 15 minutes under water and was unable to be revived.

Nathan’s father Tony Outteridge said his son was shattered by the incident.

” He’s not very good, he said it was the worst day of his life. A good mate, dead he was skippering the boat, said he didn’t do anything different to normal but he just feels responsible for it, in fact the whole crew is absolutely shattered.”
