The Planning Assessment Commission has approved an extension of the Awaba Waste Management Facility.
The tip only had a lifespan of another four years, but Friday’s decision will add another 20.
The extension allows another 2.5-million tonnes of waste to be dumped, but no more than 150,000 tonnes a year.
Tip owner, Lake Macquarie Council, will have to adhere to a strict set of environmental conditions.
