Those colourful koala sculptures you’ve seen scattered across the coast will start popping up at new homes, after all but three were sold at auction on the weekend.
More than $80,000 was raised for the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, with the Tiger Koala fetching the most at eight grand.
“It will allow us to build a new koala enclosure that’s the first project we’ll be doing and we’re hoping we’ll be able to do more gum sheds.”
A different iconic Australian animal will be chosen for a similar project in a few years.
