BALLINA COUNCILLOR PROPOSES ‘PORT COMMITTEE’
Ballina Councillor Keith Williams has proposed the formation of a “Ballina port committee”, to bring together the different projects happening around the river mouth.
“There’s so many different people involved in different projects, whether it’s the Marine Rescue for the tower, the fisherman who’s been working on the dredging or the Maritime Museum here in town.”
Councillor Williams also wants to develop a town marina.
He says its licensing fee’s would help cover the costs of dredging the river and draw people back to the town.
“We lost a lot of shoppers from the region so we need something that will bring people back to the heart of town and I think a Marina development in this area would be something quite spectacular.”
The ideas will go before Council later this month.
