FLOOD CARNAGE AT COFFS HARBOUR

Houses, cars, crops and small communities were all in the firing line during relentless rains and punishing winds which lashed the mid north coast late yesterday afternoon.

The community of Bellingen has once again found itself in isolation, as roads and bridges leading into the township remain covered with water.

The SES is desperately trying to clean up the countless fallen trees, which have caused substantial damage to homes and vehicles, and blocked roadways.

A 23 year old women was lucky to escape injury yesterday afternoon, when a 100ft eucalyptus tree fell on her family home, right above her bedroom.

Meanwhile, crop growers are trying to salvage their produce, following devastating winds which destroyed greenhouses and banana plantations.
