It’s a tradition that stems back to the early 1940s – a glamourous fundraiser for a good cause – but today the Newcastle Beach Girl contests are almost forgotten.

Now one passionate Novocastrian is determined to change all that… slowly piecing together their colourful history, and reuniting the beauties from all those years ago.

  1. My Mum was Miss Newcastle Beach 1965 and 1966. She features in the Newcastle Museum as well. She was so beautiful and to set the stories straight with beauty only skin deep??? My Mum is an amazing mother and Grandmother. I am so proud that she was also such a big part of Newcastle Beach History. Well done mum. We love you!

  2. I would like to say thankyou for the coverage on the surf girls and to let you know that i am proud to say that my mother Fay Lewis/ Dives was Miss Nobbys 1948 and is looking forward to the reuion next month at Nobbys Surf Club our family and friends are so proud of her.

  3. My sister Karen (Joy) Fairweather won the Miss Newcastle Beach contest around early1950’s. She was a beautiful girl with dark hair.

    She also won the Miss Gold Coast Beach Beautity contest in 1955/56 and I still have a photo of her with the winners sash draped across her shoulder..

    It would have been nice to have a photo of her when she won Miss Newcastle Beach Beauty contest.
    Joy passed away at the age of 46 years

  4. Hi just found out about this .My step mum Fay Clucas was Miss Newcastle Beach in 1957.she still has her sash and paper clippings and photos. Sorry we miss the reunion ,however if you would like to contact her through my email we could arrange to keep in contact….
