A 24-year-old Newcastle man has been refused bail, charged with assaulting a police officer at Wallsend overnight.
Police were called to a domestic dispute on Close Street just after midnight, where it’s alleged the man repeatedly punched the officer in the head and tried to choke him.
The man was eventually tasered.
“The officer received medical treatment at a local hospital for lacerations and bruising around his face, particularly around the nose and around the neck area.”
A female officer also suffered minor injuries.
