NEWCASTLE’S GENERAL MANAGER RESIGNS

Newcastle Council’s General Manager Phil Pearce has handed in his resignation.
Since taking the position in August 2011, Mr Pearce weathered the city’s Laman Street fig fiasco and also set an agenda for council to rein-in budget blowouts.
Mr Pearce cited personal reasons for his decision and will finish up on March 2.
Acting Lord Mayor Brad Luke accepted Mr Pearce’s resignation today and thanked him for his contribution to the community.
Statement from Phil Pearce
I have today, Wednesday 16 January tendered my resignation as General Manager of The City of Newcastle to the Acting Lord Mayor. This will take effect from Saturday 2 March 2013.
My reasons for resigning are personal and I will not be making any further statements on the reasons for my decision.
I want to thank staff for their support during my time with The City of Newcastle and wish them every success in the future.
From now until 1 March I will work with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure transition to new management will be handled with as little disruption to the organisation and its service delivery as possible.
