WILD THING UNLIKELY TO SAIL IN COFFS YACHT RACE

Controversial maxi Wild Thing is unlikely to race in the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Classic early next month.

The yacht was disqualified from the Sydney to Hobart race when its connections were unable to satisfy race officials about modifications to the boat.

Organisers of the next big event on the racing calendar say Wild Thing hasn’t entered the race to Coffs yet, and won’t be welcome if it can’t prove it’s safe.

“Well if it can’t provide the documentation for the Sydney to Hobart then it obviously can’t supply the documentation for the Pittwater to Coffs so it’s knocked itself out,” said Garry Innes from the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club.

The race to the mid north coast gets underway from Sydney on the second of January.

A  south-easter forecast for the Regatta should see the fleet finish in record time.
