FORGACS WORKERS RALLY TO DEFEND JOBS

Union members rallied outside Newcastle’s Forgacs Shipyard today, but the protest wasn’t about their own pay or conditions.

It was part of statewide action aimed at the federal government, which is considering offshore bids for navy maintenance contracts.

  1. No comments! There must be community support for the efforts of these workers to keep jobs in Newcastle. Newcastle workers have the skills and the knowhow. Raise your voice in support of them. Tell the government you want the Success and other ships like it maintained and repaired here!

  2. We have seen Australian jobs exported in so many areas, by so many companies, including Telstra, live export beef, service industries. The time has arrived to stand and fight or these jobs will go. In Queensland some unions have begun to disaffiliate from the ALP because Labor governments are influenced far too much by the AWU bosses, who have never done a thing for working people.
