Newcastle Jockey Club members have voted in favour of restructuring their board to receive $11.2 million for track upgrades from Racing New South Wales
230 members attended the AGM with 97 per cent of voting yes to the changes.
Racing New South Wales told the club it had to change its constitution and cut the number of board members from 10 to seven to receive the funds.
Newcastle Jockey Club CEO Cameron Williams has welcomed the decision.
” With the $11.2 million funding package now approved the Club will be able to move forward and position itself as the leading provincial and training centre in the country.”
“The investment in Newcastle Jockey Club will bring significant economic benefit to the community, not only through infrastructure investment, but also through an economic flow on effect to our tourism and entertainment industries across Newcastle and the Hunter.”
