SCHOOLIES HAILED AS HEROS FOR TWEED RIVER RESCUE

Two schoolies are being hailed as heroes after they rescued four elderly passengers from an overturned boat.
The group was floating in the Tweed River for over an hour before the teens could reach them.
What this demonstrates and luckily in calm water (as film shows) that incidents can happen anytime anywhere in the water and rapidly. As we say repeatedly, lifejackets will only save life is worn! Ask yourself the question – can I put it on in less than two minutes either in the boat or in the water – fully clothed.
The film appears to identify a very basic personal flotation device (PFD) cheaply purchased from a boating store and not user friendly and so not welcoming to wear. The skipper of the boat needs to rethink about the wear-ability of the PFDs and Wear It.
Very good to hear that we have 99.9% of Schoolies that can do the right thing, rather than the very smallest minority. Their parents must be proud!
What a wonderful story. Nice to see the “schoolies” in a positive light! They should receive an award!
Congratulations on behalf of the whole school you two. A great effort. Now THAT is how to get on the News at schoolies for all the right reasons.
Well done boys. I’m so proud to have known and taught you.
