CORRECTIVE SERVICES MINISTER VISIT GAOL

The Minister for Corrective Services David Elliot has visited the Tamworth gaol, one month after a prisoner was found unresponsive in his cell, and later died in hospital.
Mr Elliot has described Tane Chatfield’s death as “tragic”, but would not comment further on the matter while the coronial inquest takes place.
He says the Department will wait until the inquest has been completed before making any decisions.
“At which time if there are any recommendations from that coroners inquiry that we need to take on board to improve the running of our operations, then we will do that,” Minister for Corrective Services, David Elliot.
Mr Elliot said he had offered to meet with the family of Mr Chatfield while in town.
