MAN ACCUSED OF BEHEADING ORDERED TO SUPPLY DNA

A 46-year-old accused of beheading a man on the state’s far north coast has been ordered to supply a DNA sample.

Jonathon Andrew Stenberg faced Lismore Local Court for the first time today, via video link, charged with murdering 54-year-old Edward James Kelly at his Broadwater home in June.

The defence lawyer opposed a forensic procedure application, but the magistrate ordered Stenberg to supply a self-administered DNA swab – or have a hair sample taken if he refuses.

“Will he be applying for bail at any time? No no comment I said, thanks very much”

The case is due back in court on November 20.
