Upper Hunter MP George Souris says he fears it will be an inadequate solution if the Newcastle rail line is cut.
Mr Souris says plans for a bus operating on an eight-minute loop from Wickham into the CBD would disadvantage train users from Dungog, Maitland and further up the valley.
“The potential inconvenience and difficulty of an intermodal change would mean they choose to travel by car or choose not to travel at all.”
A decision on the future of the rail line is expected to be contained in a planning document, due next month.
