PORT STEPHENS’ FINAL COUNTDOWN

At Port Stephens, it remains a two-horse race.
Former mayor Bruce MacKenzie initially emerged as the frontrunner – but a flow of votes to Geoff Dingle has meant a result could be at least two days away.
I hope it is Mr Mackenzie that becomes mayor, we as a community cannot afford an arrogant self centered mayor such as Mr Dingle in the unlikely event that he be elected.
Unfortunately when it came time for me to vote, I heard a number of Mr Dingles ‘cronies’ bad mouthing Mr Mackenzie, claiming that the coal seam gas at Williamtown was on Mr Mackenzie’s land(where did that rumour come from?). I find it sad that Mr Dingle must resort to putting down other candidates and make up rumours in order to gain votes. I did not hear a foul word come from any of Mr Mackenzie’s volunteers on the day, but rather positive comments. I remember hearing one comment about Mrs Dover “She is a lovely lady, good luck to her.” It was this positive attitude that reinforced my opinion that Mr Mackenzie would be a suitable Mayor for the Port Stephens rate payers.
Good luck to all candidates, especially Mr Mackenzie.
