FIERY ESCAPE FOR TRUCK DRIVER ON PACIFIC HIGHWAY

Mechanical faults were the cause of a truck fire on the Pacific Highway at Johns River last night.

The b-double was travelling south with a load of roof tiles at about 6:30, when the vehicle collided with the guard rail on Stewart’s River Bridge.

On impact, a fire started in the undercarriage, but soon engulfed the entire vehicle.

Southbound lanes were closed for two hours – but the salvage operation is expected to continue through to this afternoon.

The driver escaped uninjured.
