FIELD SET FOR NEWCASTLE CITY HALL ELECTION

Seven candidates will seek to become Lord Mayor of Newcastle in September with the field finalised on Thursday afternoon.
81 candidates have nominated for the 12 councillor positions.
Lord Mayor John Tate announced yesterday his intention to retire from the city’s top job, while Labor councillors Sharon Claydon and Independents Scott Sharpe, Graham Boyd and Shane Connell won’t contest the election.
Of note in Ward 1 is Lisa Tierney who’ll nominate on a Liberal ticket while Caitlan Raschke who led the charge against the felling of the Laman Street figs has also nominated.

Fee Mozeley, who also played a significant part in the fig debate, is nominated in Ward 4.

Former councillor Helene O’Neil has nominated in Ward 2.

The mayoral candidates are in the following order of the ballot paper.

  1. What a waste of rate payers attenition and money. Why are we in zones? Are we all not in the Newcastle region and for the same city? Why are we so divided by beuraucrats?
    There will be no peace in a house of spoilt brats. Who don’t want to share their toys.
