TAME CLAIMS GOLD AT WORLD CUP 1

Avoca kayaker Lachlan Tame has struck gold at the first World Cup event in Portugal overnight.

He won the K2 1000 metre final with Ken Wallace.

After finishing second at the World Championships last year, the pair produced a controlled race to finish point two of a second in front.

Making his senior team debut, Tame’s 18 year-old Avoca teammate Riley Fitzsimmons finished fifth in the same event, three seconds of the pace.

The second World Cup event is in Germany next weekend.
