HUNDREDS CAUGHT WITH ILLEGAL DRUGS AT SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS

More than 400 people, including 6 juveniles, were found with illegal drugs at the Splendour in the Grass music festival over the weekend.

20 000 people attended the four day music festival held in Byron Bay, with 421 of those being found in possession of illegal drugs including amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy and LSD.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Commander, Superintendent Stuart Wilkins, said the number of people caught with drugs was unacceptable.

“We were kept busy over the four days but once again drug and alcohol-related incidents dominated our time…this culture of drug-taking at music events needs to stop!”

Some people went to extreme measures to get drugs and alcohol into the festival including a 29-year-old woman who hid spirits in her top, and five men from Melbourne who were caught concealing cannabis in the roof lining of their vehicle.

Alcohol fuelled violence was also an issue with one woman charged after elbowing a female officer in the face.
