FORMER ANGLICAN DEAN SURRENDERS HIS OAM

Disgraced former Anglican Dean of Newcastle Graeme Lawrence has given up his Order of Australia – after being asked to show why he should keep it.

Lawrence was defrocked by the church in 2012 and jailed last year, after being convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage boy in 1991.

He was awarded the OAM in 1998 for service to the church and the community.

Lawrence will be able to apply for parole in 2024… he’ll be 81.
