A Hunter woman has expressed her outrage after being told she has to pay extra to see a doctor, because she’s a smoker.
Joanne Dennis says it’s a choice she’s made, and she shouldn’t be punished for it.

I agree with her, why penalise smokers more, lets put more taxes on drug addict.
Joanne Dennis is very misinformed $66 is the fee charged by most doctors. these doctors are trying to encourage people to quit smoking by offering a discount…….I say good on them!
She said herself she is also overweight…….guess what Joanne if you wanted life insurance you would have to pay a lot extra for your smoking and weight issues.
If a smoker is singled out in this way, so should alcoholics, drug users, sportsman and the overweight along with people who don’t pay private medical insurance. Just about covers the community don’t you think?
If they are going to do this for smokers then watch out fatties, sport players, adrenalin junkies, vehicle users, pregnant women, anybody who has made a choice that leads to medical intervention(most everybody including some of the disabled). Only the tiniest mind would support this thin edge of the wedge.
