The carbon tax is being partly blamed for the decision to close Munmorah Power Station.
Delta Electricity announced the move today, saying the 45-year-old station’s place in the market has been overtaken by more efficient generators… and that its aging infrastructure and the carbon tax helped seal its fate.
Munmorah has been on standby and has not produced power since August 2010.
Around 100 staff were reassigned to work at Vales Point.
Delta says it will consult with workers and unions on the long-term picture – some voluntary redundancies are expected.
