The smokey haze around the Northern Rivers is set to increase over the next week as fire services continue to conduct hazard reduction burns around the area.
Upwards of 25 to 30 burns have taken place over the past few days, and the Rural Fire Service says more are to come.
“We’ve got a few fires in the northern rivers area area that are causing a few concerns, they’re basically burning in private country and state forests, and these are being monitored”.
The Rural Fire Service says the burns are being done now because of favourable weather conditions.
Landowners wanting to conduct their own hazard reduction are being urged to first contact the Rural Fire Service.
