Minister for the North Coast, Don Page has joined the fight for CCTV cameras to be installed in Byron Bay, and is urging council to change its position on the matter.
225 alcohol related assaults have been recorded in the town in the past 12 months, with 190 in Johnson Street alone.
Police and Byron’s Chamber of Commerce have been pushing for street cameras for the past few months, but the devices don’t have council’s support.
