HIGHWAY WORK SET TO RESTART

Work is set to resume on sections of the Pacific Highway upgrade near Port Macquarie that were at the centre of a recent contamination scare.
The Herons Creek to Stills Road project was halted last month when workers became sick, after coming into contact with what was believed to be the toxic remnants of a 1980 truck crash.
Preliminary testing by Roads and Maritime Services has revealed the presence of low levels of pesticides, including DDT and volatile fatty acids.
According to an RMS statement, the levels were extremely low and not considered to pose a health risk.
A final report is due to be released next week.
