NO BOTTLE SHOP FOR MOUNT HUTTON

Lake Macquarie Council has refused plans for a bottle shop at Mount Hutton.

Community members protested against the proposal from Woolworths for a ‘Beer Wine and Spirits’ store which would have been situated less than 50 metres from the local primary school.

Last night 11 councillors voted against the plan, with only 1 supporting it.

Councillors based their decision on the potential negative social impact of the store, its proximity to the school and said that Woolworths didn’t adequately consult the community.

  1. Good call from Lake Council. It’s difficult enough for parents as it is, without alcoholic ten year olds. Yes that’s right! A ten year old could help him/herself to a bottle of spirits at my local bottlo; and who’s going to leave the shop unattended chasing a child?
