A large inner-Newcastle block will be developed into the state’s largest court complex outside Sydney, after council last night approved its sale to the state government.
The corner block of Burwood and Hunter streets is used as a carpark, but by 2014, it will be transformed into a 10-court complex, worth $94-million.
Construction of the 10,000 square metre building is expected to commence mid next year.
Councillors have agreed to enter into a contract for sale, the price of the land will remain confidential.
