DRAMA IN THE SKY

A child received an electric shock after a joyflight went horribly wrong in Maitland this afternoon.

The helicopter took off from a park at around 1:30 and clipped a nearby powerline.

“It has come down on the Maitland side of the river and rested on a handrail on the Maitland side of the boardwalk and a three year old child was with his parents playing in the area and suffered some kind of electrocution.”

The toddler was taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

The helicopter landed safely – the pilot and two passengers aboard weren’t injured.

Areas on both sides of the Hunter River were cordoned off by police, as EnergyAustralia crews repaired the line.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating.
