STAPLES SET FOR 100 FLY AT OLYMPIC TRIALS

Kincumber’s Lachlan Staples can still qualify for the Olympic team in the 100-metres butterfly, after missing out in the 200 last night.

Staples was second after 50-metres, and still in contention for a place on the podium at the half way stage.

At the 150, he trailed leader Nick D’Arcy by two seconds, and couldn’t bridge the gap on the final lap, finishing sixth in one-minute 59.

Fellow Coast swimmer Elyssia Gasparotto, faced Olympic medallist Jessicah Schipper in the semi-final of the women’s 200 Fly, and finished a respectable sixth in a time of two minutes-17.
