ELLIE-JEAN’S PODIUM FINISH IN PRO JUNIOR
After getting knocked out of the quarter finals of the boy’s Pro Junior at Surfest, Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting is hoping to resurrect his campaign by going even further in the Burton Toyota Pro.
The local product today progressed through to the second round being staged in Newcastle, after pipping Brazil’s Jano Belo with an 11-point-one.
Meanwhile, Crescent Head’s Ellie-Jean Coffey is celebrating a podium finish in the girl’s pro junior, coming runner-up.
She qualified for the final by outclassing Byron Bay’s Kirsten Ogden late yesterday afternoon, before being beaten by South Africa’s Bianca Buitendag.
Ellie-Jean was hoping for similar success in the the Hunter Ports Women’s comp which kicked off at Merewether beach today, but was knocked out in the opening round.
