BYRON COUNCIL MAY CLEAN UP ITS KERBS

Byron Shire Council is considering cleaning up its kerbside rubbish collection service in favour of a ‘do it yourself’ system.

The current one has been popular but a council report found that the mess created by illegal dumping is distressing some residents.

“I think they should keep it as it is because its cool people can pick things up for free but maybe do something with the tips as well so it’s on the streets getting messy.”

“I’ve seen stuff on the street for two weeks at a time so that’s a bit long and it’s messy, but I do think it’s a good service.”

One proposed alternative to the current system is that residents dispose of their rubbish at the Myocum tip for free.

Four possible options will be voted on at tomorrow’s council meeting.
