An elderly woman has died after trying to save a duckling in Ballina yesterday.
The 80 year old woman was hit by a car on Links Avenue at around 11am.
Witnesses say she ran onto the road to help a lone duckling, which was struggling to get up a gutter.
Paramedics worked to stabilise the woman at the scene, before she was flown to Lismore Base Hospital, where she died overnight.
Police say it was an unfortunate accident.
