NAMBUCCA RIVER TRUCK PLUNGE

A truck driver somehow escaped serious injury this morning, when his
southbound semi trailer left the Pacific Highway at Macksville on the mid north coast, and plunged into the Nambucca River.

A passerby came to the aid of the man, who was trapped for a short time in the cabin of the partially submerged rig.

Fortunately the driver, who was transporting a load of frozen chickens, suffered only minor injuries.

Booms were deployed by HAZMAT teams to prevent the possible spread of oil.

The accident, which happened at 3.30am, was the second at the same location involving a semi trailer in the past few months.
