CONTROVERSIAL DAIRY GETS THE GO AHEAD

A controversial application to establish a large scale dairy operation at Raleigh has been given the go ahead by Bellingen Shire Council.
The plan was approved despite concerns the 800 head farm will increase pollution in the Bellinger River.
Given the troubled history of the Bellinger and Kalang Rivers, as evidenced by the closures for oyster farming in recent years, one might have hoped for developments which would have been less retrograde.
Once again Community wishes are overridden in the mad pursuit of financial gain.
A record number of objections and still the Council does not get it that the community does not want this development.
It has to stop!
Council elections are held in September 2012. It is important that voters (local community members) elect candidates who will support their local community.
