INVESTIGATIONS UNDERWAY INTO BALLINA BAR DREDGING

The state government is investigating whether the notorious Ballina Bar should be dredged.
Ballina Shire Council has been calling on action for months, after six boats capsized this year, resulting in countless rescues.
The crossing proved fatal just over a year ago when a 63 year old man drowned after his boat overturned.
The Crown Lands department will take measurements at the bar to determine if dredging is feasible, and will also consider the scale and costs.
A meeting between the government, council and other parties will be held this week to discuss the issue.
