PRESERVING HISTORY FOR YEARS TO COME

Port Macquarie’s historic museum is about to embark on a plan to ensure its 20,000 items are preserved well into the future.

A conservator from Preservation Australia recently audited the condition of the museum’s collection.

The assessment identified ways to improve the display and storage of museum items.

The report will also help the Port Macquarie Historical Society seek grants to improve the way it cares for the nationally-significant collection.

Port Macquarie was officially founded in 1818 and established as a penal settlement three years later.
