  1. Alan Nisbett from NNSW Football stated the NNSW Women’s Premier League is a failing competition and they have wasted $200 000 on it. I would love to see the breakdown on this and I would also love to see the money they spend on the men’s competitions. I find it strange that other states such as NSW, ACT, SA and QLD can run a successful Women’s Premier League but NNSW Football fail to do this. COME ON NNSW FOOTBALL GET WITH THE TIMES AND GET STAFF THAT ARE ACTUALLY KEEN TO PROGRESS FOOTBALL. Maybe it’s time to start modeling off the other successful states.

  2. NNSW Football should be ashamed of themselves. $200 000 dollars spent on the WPL, Id like to see that!!

  3. Ive been to several WPL games over the past couple years and have always come away extremely impressed with the quality of Football displayed. You also can’t hide from the fact that Women’s Football world wide is a sleeping giant. The recent Women’s World Cup was not only deemed a financial success but also smashed TV records worldwide… which clearly demonstrates the growth of women’s football. Wake up and take a look around NNSW Football. Do what’s right for the game and it’s people.

  4. If you have a look at the 2010 NNSW annual report on the NNSW Football website you will see they had $4,567,989 closing balance and made $1,018,296 profit for the year

  5. For such a ‘fledgling competition’ (Alan Nisbett’s words) why was the grandstand and surrounding grounds packed with so many supporters at the WPL Grandfinal……….?

  6. WPL should be growing, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie already have WPL teams for the 16 girls to go onto, I think the Hunter as well need a WPL team for our girls to aspire to. Going through 6 years of Development and SYL to then be told by NNSW, ‘just to go back to your old clubs’. It is definately time for a change NNSW!!

  7. NNSWF do not spend any money to develop a competition. NYL is a prime example as is women’s football. Hell even the Solo cup would not exist but for sponsorship. the money trail is one way – from us players/parents to NNSWF bank account.
I think the job title of Mr Nisbett says it all “operations manager” – what happened to football manager Oh that’s right they aren’t worried about the football or it’s development just about the “ker-ching” they can bring in!!

  8. well are we missing something here NNSW? Who pays your wage? who keeps NNSWF going. Do we not pay fee’s to Clubs, zones and Federations to play football. Is it not your job to run competitions? 50,000 plus players contribute to NNSWF by way of fee’s. NNSWF should not be looking at the the profits or bottom lines, mens or womens football, it’s about what NNSWF can do for its players. if NNSWF have to put money in to WPL or NBN so beit, its a fact of life for you guys, its your job to run federation football competitions isn’t it. So now lets stop bitching about a great competition and put some positives forward to how we can make it better.
Football is loosing players to other codes in mens at an increasingly alarming rate, don’t do the same to the girls, without players you guys don’t have jobs. always remember that.

  9. Maybe they shouldn’t have males ‘trying’ to run a female competition. Or perhaps NNSW need some new faces with some new ideas.

  10. Can NNSWF please stand up or step to the side and let someone who actually cares about the development of football in this town undo all the damage they cause? They are supporting football in this town..yeh, supporting it to fail!
And sorry Magic, Olympic, Charlestown and all the other clubs that are sexists, but you can’t kill women’s football as much as you are trying.

  11. Putting $200k doesn’t mean your supporting the League. I’d like to see the NBN League run successfully without their feeder teams on that budget. Put your leadership into action and initiate development of the League please! Not the destruction.
The Clubs are just as hopeless. Doesn’t take much to follow Valo’s lead and put an add in the paper for players. Does anyone else know women’s football is the fastest growing sport ? This is embarrassing.. we really are backwards up here.

  12. I would like to congratulate all the players, coaches and administrators involved with the WPL over the short time the competition has been around and on the success of the WPL so far, despite NNSW’s continued efforts to destruct it!

This competition needs to expand and can someone explain to me why there are several clubs wanting to join the competition that are being discouraged and ignored by NNSW!

What Nesbitt failed to mention on the news last night was that the $200K spent on the competition would have come out registration fees NNSW receive from the WPL players and other female players. Do the sums, they haven’t “spent” $200K of “their” money on the competition at all – unless they believe that the rego money from the women is only there to support the male competitions.

I find it embarrrasing and highly offensive that a person in Nesbitt’s position would come out on TV and describe the competition as “fledgling”. Isn’t it his job to promote and foster the competition? Maybe its time a broom was put through NNSW to clean out the useless deadwood and get some resources in there with fresh, positive ideas, along with enthusiasm and a “can do” attitude. Maybe then they could work towards repairing their damaged relationships and reputation with their female members, and the referees and district associations. Who knows maybe they would even promote and foster womens football.

Come on NNSW pick up your game – if you were playing in a football competition you’d be playing in the F grade churches comp! Wake up and do what you are being paid to do…

As far as Magic dropping their WPL team – definitely poor form, but not unexpected from that club.

  13. I would like to see the WPL continue to grow and flourish. It takes a number of years to establish a strong competition. Girls football is a fast growing sport and the girls deserve the opportunity to aspire to playing in a premier competition.

  14. Northern NSW football has not only shown their disrespect for women’s football but also women in general. It appears Sexism in sport is alive and thriving in the north!

  15. for decades, women have fought for equality in voting rights, the workplace and society in general. yet there still remains a huge lack of equality within sport, how is it that sport is forever evolving to suit the needs of males, yet federations (such as NNSWF) are still stuck in the previous century when it comes to equality within sexes? would they discriminate against an African, Asian or anyone of another cultural background? extremely doubtful, so why discriminate against women. wake up to yourselves, northern.

  16. Mr Nisbett did state on NBN news that it was a fledging competition and they have already spent 200k on the WPL competition so if I have misinterpreted these comment than I do apologise. My point is we need to be more postive about the WPL and help build it. If we need to raise more funds for the WPL lets work together to do this
