Meantime the federal government has also been handing out cash on the Northern Rivers, with a $3.5 million grant to help upgrade the Ballina Byron Gateway airport.
Improvements will include extending the airport’s parking bays, and taxiway.
The project is due for completion in December next year, with Ballina council contributing the remaining $500,000.
A further $5 million in federal funding will go towards the Lismore City Hall upgrade, which should be finished in late 2013.
