A Newcastle man attempting to cycle around the world for charity has been set upon and bashed in remote central Asia.
After leaving home two years ago, Mayfield’s Chris Roach has already travelled through Australia and Asia.
But while crossing into Kazakhstan, near Russia, he and a riding companion were targeted by a gang of youths.
Mr Roach needed six stitches for a head wound, and is undergoing tests in hospital.
He hopes to soon resume his ride, which raises funds for Oxfam.
