HARD TIMES AHEAD FOR FOOTY PLAYER

A promising Gold Coast footballer has been told he’ll never play again after breaking his neck during a game.
Josh Harvey also won’t be able to return to work and says his club’s insurance policy has fallen short of covering his expenses.
I am a father of a child playing rugby league at Runaway Bay, I was appalled to see your story on Josh harvey. I feel for him and hope his recovery is swift. Perhaps the story should be correct before releasing it to the public.

1. Josh harvey missed two season playing footbal after and injury at work. A simple search on the internet found that.
2. The QRL is where all clubs in Qld obtain insurance and all players playing rubgy league are under the same conditions.
3. qrl and most Clubs in qld have internet acess to the conditions of the policy and how to make claims.
4. perhaps the reporter should have investigated a little further and found out where the insurance policy is issued from and the conditions. players are made aware of the conditions before playing.
the story although very sad for the young man portrayed a very biasis line and was not investigated. I hope this young man recovers fully and is able to take part in sport again.
As the mother of the young man injured Daryl, I feel it my responsibility to respond to your comments. My son has played for Runaway Bay for many years he has played Rugby league since the age of 5 and now is 26. I can assure you we are aware that Josh sustained a work injury to his leg and was away from the game for a couple of years. I fail to see what this has to do with the fact that he has sustained an injury during the grand final to his neck and arm. Be assured through Josh’s own sheer determination, a lot of medical treatment and work he learnt to play with the leg injury and got back on the football field this year. This surely shows you what type of young man he is and what the game means to him. He loves the game, the competition, the club and particulary the mateship. Since my son’s injury I have contacted the reluvent representatives at the football club and been advised by that representative what and what not the policy covers. In all the years I have been involved in Football I have never had a discussion with anyone at the club about insurance other than that players have insurance when they take the field. The point is that everyone has a duty of care to ensure that all our players are informed and protected now and in the future. My advise is to all players get your own insurance cover immediately if you aren’t in the A Grade team before you put on your next jersey. I truly am grateful that he is still able to walk and talk as we all know other families have experienced more tragedy with neck injuries. I can tell you what is appalling looking at my fit and healthy young man in a neck brace and wondering how to do I help him.
Why can’t I see this again? What does missing plug in mean? Very strange.
nice comments daryl you idiot i guess it would be a different story if it were your kids or your best mate.no one ever wants to see anyone seriously hurt on the football
field.just remember this is a serious injury to his neck something could be with him for the rest of his life not only stopping him playing football but also affecting his ability to work and quality of life .
