A Lennox Head artist is among the finalists in one of Australia’s most prestigious art awards, the Archibald Prize.
Angus McDonald’s painting of Australian art collector and benefactor, Dr Ann Lewis has made the final few.
41 works have been selected from nearly 800 entries and the winner will be announced on Friday.
I find it rather perplexing why other Artist in regional N.S.W. unlike Angus McDonald,who DON’T get media coverage when they too are finalist in the 2011 Archibald!Example being ,whilst i was at the Archibald selection as a guest,I recognised the work of the now Lismore based,formerly Byron Bay Pastellist James DeWeaver, he too made the final cut ,but why no recognition of this?Is it a joke?Is it because he’s notoriously reclusive ,who knows,all i know is that it was not reported and i’d like to know why?
Its his second time as a finalist!C’mon NBN,please report about things like this,Angus is a perennial finalist,EVERYONE knows about Angus,why don’t you give DeWeaver his creds!
I frankly agree with Francis,but think that James DeWeaver is very out-spoken when it comes down too it,which is GOOD! People who run the media don’t like to have people,especially an Artist,be able to say things publically about either corporations or the wealthy clowns who run the media that may be seen as negative,or maybe even be sued!
I live in the Northern Rivers of N.S.W. and would like the media to do their damn job,report the facts,don’t gloss over Artist you may think controversial!Take the Artist who made “Piss Christ”,google that in the images and you’ll see the controversy that created,and how the Artist who created that went universal!
Media -DON’T be so petty,report the facts ,then let god sort them out!
I think James DeWeaver is ahead of the times.A genius,maybe,sublime talent always rises to the top!
DeWeaver’s blogs are so ruthless and straightforward written in a red-eyed rage against institutions and corporate culture,for me, they are akin to Hunter S.Thompson in his hey-day when he was a writer at Rolling Stone !LONG LIVE ANTI-HERO’s!
