MURWILLUMBAH DIVIDED OVER GREYHOUND TRACK

Murwillumbah is set to become home to a greyhound racing track after Tweed Shire Council approved a controversial DA.
Greyhound owners are worried the facility will lead to animal cruelty and problem gambling.
If you want to see greyhounds run, go to the beach. If you want to bet on something, bet on football, car racing, basketball, etc. Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane.
This track makes no financial, ethical, employment related sense. When you look at the facts of what is proposed, it’s ludicrous that it even got this far! It’s not being built as a”family outing” – it’s going to be a televised TAB track with few facilities for live punters, few jobs if any(just being transferred over from Tweed track), and even more removal to what really happens to these dogs. I have had experience in the industry and let me tell you, the things the animal rights groups publish is mostly true. They are literally just a commodity. Sure, there are people that care for their individual dogs, but the sheer overload of numbers is completely impossible to comprehend. If i hear “but they love to run” one more time from an owner/trainer!! What dog DOESN’T love to run – that isn’t the issue! The fact that you use this to create a financial aspect to it is the problem. Nothing wrong with dogs running FOR FUN – and knowing that they have a bed, are fed and have access to medical care regardless of their ability on the track. I believe the industry is seriously in decline, and it is always proven by the calibre of replies from those deeply entrenched. There is extremely little new blood joining the racing fraternity, because today’s society no longer thinks it is acceptable. Face facts: Racing is dying out as a pastime – lets not let them take the dogs along with it!!
Do we really need another greyhound race track, NO. Do we really need to be encouraging people to gamble, NO. Should the taxpayers have to fund something they obviously do not want, NO. Australia lets get with the times, dogs being injured and killed for gambling is simply getting harder to justify in a civilised community when other western countries are moving away or even banning this so called sport. For those of you who insist on betting on greyhound racing don’t watch the winners, observe the losers, they are Dead Dogs Running. Running for Their Lives!
Greyhound racing is dying out around the world as people come to realise just how cruel the whole industry is. Well done Tweed Shire Council for making yourselves look like backwards promoters of gambling!
Tweed Shire Council you should be ashamed of yourselves!!! Do you have any compassion for dogs at all? When you go home tonight and cuddle up to your own loving pet think of a beautiful gentle greyhound dog living in a small 1m x 1.5m cage on a cold concrete floor in the middle of winter with no hair on his bottom from the cold hard surface and only wanting to be loved, cuddled and have a soft bed to lie on and be part of a loving family, not exploited, forceably injured and then murdered all in the name of gambling and betting!!! The only ones that will suffer through this distressing decision that you have made are these majestic dogs and for that reason their blood is stained all over your hands!!! Shame shame shame!!!
i dont see a problem with this track going ahead. as an owner i know i cant speak for the entire industry but i know my dogs are kept well. fed three times a day my boys have a 50m x 2m run that they are let into daily they have their own kennels for sleeping which are 2m x 1.5 they each have thier own bed warm rug, get let inside if it gets below 5degrees. i know the industry may have bad practises but i know im not one of them doing it and if it means a track with tab facilities and more prizemoney for my pups to win then go ahead do it its closer to my house
I agree with Bruce, I, too, gave my greyhounds everything they needed, including love.My greyhounds ate the best beef I could buy, were exercised properly and had comfortable bedding and warm coats.
They were all adopted to loving fanilies when their careers ended…I made sure that they all had wonderful responsible owners.
