There’s been more dramatic rescues at Newcastle beach this afternoon.
In separate rescues, an ex-lifeguard and off duty lifeguard saved two young girls. One of the girls was taken to hospital, her condition is not known.
It comes as Newcastle City Council recently attracted criticism for delaying the patrolling season by seven weeks to save money.
It’s the fourth time swimmers have had to be rescued off the beach in the last month.
